HOW DOES OUR TRAIL WORK?
This year's trail will run every day during the May Half Term week, from Saturday 28th May to Sunday 5th June 2021.
The trail starts and finishes at Westwood Stores (Tynings Way, BA15 2BU). You can purchase your trail maps from the shop for £4.50 each or £5 with a westwood scarecrow pencil.
Follow the map around the village to find the scarecrows. For each scarecrow you find, take a good look and try to identify which Out of this World or space-related film, book, tv programme, character, famous saying, song or artist the scarecrow is depicting.
Write the answer for each scarecrow on the trail map sheet. Once you've completed the trail, write your contact details on the trail map and return it to the village shop. We will draw our prizes winners from all entries which have attempted to guess each scarecrow correctly - it's the taking part that counts so don't worry if you don't get every single one right! On the map are also instructions for a fun children's activity to keep even the smallest member of the family entertained - it really is a fun family event with something for everyone :-)
The trail route (1.5-2 miles long) will take you on a gentle stroll around the village of Westwood, along a family friendly route. There is a small section that crosses a field, but this can be avoided if you wish. The rest is along footpaths and residential streets. There is one small section where wheelchair access is difficult - this is clearly marked on the map to allow you to plan accordingly.
Parking is available at Westwood Social Club (Lower Westwood, BA15 2AP) - approximately 200m from the start of the trail.
We have some great local businesses who will be open for meals and refreshments at key times during the week -
Westwood Social Club, the New Inn Pub , Westwood Parish Rooms, Number 10 Tea Gardens in Avoncliff, Iford Cafe & Kitchen - plus of course the chance for ice creams at our fantastic Westwood Stores. Look at their websites or follow us on social media for more info on opening times.
WHY?
It's great fun and at the same time will raise valuable funds for our village primary school.
The trail is being organised by and in aid of:
- Friends of Westwood School (Westwood with Iford School)
