2018 SCARECROW TRAIL - "One of a Pair"

Westwood did it again! This year's theme was 'One of a Pair' with our scarecrow makers choosing a famous pair, and making one of them with clues to the other, so the trail goers could guess the pair.  Yet again, we were delighted with the high quality of the scarecrows which appeared throughout our beautiful village during the May half term week - families of both the school and nursery, local residents, and children at the school and nursery all joined in by creating their own 'one of a pair' for the trail.  There was something for everyone of all ages - some easy to guess, some more cryptic - which made for a really fun family event.

Refreshments were served from Westwood Nursery on both weekends, and we had our first Scarecrow Barbeque - a lovely relaxing afternoon in Westwood Park.  People came from far and wide, and we even had a family from Australia visiting locally who joined in the fun.

The weather was a bit mixed, but it was still a record breaking year of fundraising - a fantastic final total of £2,690 to be shared between Westwood with Iford School and Westwood Nursery to fund new facilities and resources for the children who attend here.

Have a look at the answers below - did you get them all right?

A huge thank you to all of our scarecrow makers - clearly a lot of thought and effort was put into the making of each and every one.
It was a very close race this year - the votes have been counted for the best scarecrow and the winner is...
Abney (& Teale )  - made by the Webb Family
2nd - Bill (& Ben) the Flower Pot Men
3rd - Peter Pan (& Wendy)
4th - R2DR (& C3PO)
5th - (The Lady &) The Tramp

We must as ever say a huge thank you to Ray and his team at Costcutters Westwood for selling the trail maps so enthusiastically as always.  We couldn't do it without you!

Many thanks also to Westwood Social Club for the very kind use of their car park throughout the trail week.

Thank you to all the parents at Westwood with Iford Primary School and Westwood Nursery School and local residents who baked cakes for our refreshments.

Many thanks to the following for kindly donating prizes and selling maps throughout the week:
  • No. 10 Tea Gardens, Avoncliff
  • The New Inn, Westwood
  • The Parish Rooms, Westwood
